Port Perry Minor Softball Association Requirements

Plate umpires are used in all divisions with the exception of Learn To Play.  Depending on the number of Jr. Umpires available, a two-person system will be used for Squirt and above and for all championship games.

Eligibility to Umpire for Port Perry Minor Softball

To be eligible to umpire, applicants must be born in 1995 or earlier and he/she must

• Attend a Junior Development Clinic offered by Softball Ontario( for those under 18)

OR

• Earn carded status from Softball Ontario by writing a take home exam

OR

• Be certified as Level 1 by Softball Ontario

Returning umpires will be required to attend umpire clinics at least once every two years

• Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the Chief Umpire and/or Umpire Mentor for candidates who have umpired for Port Perry in the past and have demonstrated satisfactory understanding of the game and the rules.

Umpires who attend an Umpire Clinic and demonstrate dedication and responsibility to their job throughout the season will receive a year end bonus (up to $30) upon recommendation from the Chief Umpire.  This means that if you fulfill your scheduled obligations to Port Perry Minor Softball some of your clinic costs could be reimbursed.

Port Perry Minor Softball supplies our Umpires with the following equipment:

• Face mask
• Chest protector
• Leg guards

Umpires are expected to wear a blue shirt, ball cap, suitable pants and shoes.  It is recommended that umpires provide their own counters and whisks.

 Umpires are paid based on their certification level and experience.  The number of games scheduled for each umpire depends on your availability and the number of umpires available.
